Some shrubs just get away from you. What starts as a manageable plant slowly turns into a massive green wall that blocks your windows, crowds your walkway, and makes the whole front of your house feel heavy and overgrown. That's exactly what we were working with here.

The shrub had grown into a full, dense ball shape - solid green all the way to the ground with zero structure underneath. You couldn't see the trunk, couldn't see the branching, and it was eating up most of the front bed. It needed more than a light trim. It needed a real cut with a clear vision for what it should look like.

We went with a lollipop style trim - cleaning out all the lower growth to expose the natural branch structure, then shaping the canopy up top into a tight, clean rounded form. It's a technique that works really well on shrubs like this because it gives them a defined shape while letting the plant actually breathe. The exposed trunk and branching add a ton of character that was completely hidden before.

The difference it makes to the front entrance is hard to overstate. The walkway feels more open, the house is more visible, and the whole bed looks intentional instead of neglected. That's the thing about good shrub trimming - it's not just about cutting. It's about knowing what shape to work toward and having the skill to get there cleanly.

Whether you've got one overgrown shrub or a whole row of hedges that need attention, this kind of work is exactly what we do at Top Cutz. Lawn, landscaping, and tree service - we handle it all.
